Wright Leads Sailors Past Sydney FC

 Australian veteran Bailey Wright might be a proud Socceroo, but on Wednesday night, he stood firmly between Sydney FC and their continental dreams, helping Lion City Sailors to a commanding 2-0 victory in the AFC Champions League Two semifinal first leg at Jalan Besar Stadium.

Wright, 32, who has featured for Australia at two FIFA World Cups, was a rock at the heart of the Sailors' defence, shutting down a Sydney FC side determined to make a mark in Asia. Despite his strong ties to Australian football, Wright had no hesitation putting national pride aside to ensure his Singaporean club took a major step toward a historic final.

“Of course, I’m proud to be Australian, but tonight I was focused on Lion City Sailors,” Wright said after the game. “We’re only halfway there, but we showed we belong on this stage.”
